POPULAR
CATCHES:
Striped Bass: The Striped Bass is
probably the most fished for species on the east coast. The
"Striper" has the ability to grow over 80-pounds
with the current world record being 78-pounds. However, 3 fish
over 70-pounds have been caught within 20 miles of Falmouth in
the past decade. The average fish caught daily on the Sea-K II
range from 5-30 pounds with the occasional 40-pounder mixed
in. We employ all methods of fishing from trolling, jigging,
and live baiting and casting depending on the crew and time of
year. The current regulations are 2 fish per angler with a
minimum size of 28 inches.
Bluefish: They're Always hungry and
always around, the Bluefish is an excellent game fish. The
fish around our area average 3-15 pounds and can be caught by
a variety of techniques. Check out our August Bluefish
Specials. These are great trips for the whole family. There is
no minimum size limit for Bluefish however a limit of 10 fish
per angle is in effect.
Sharks: The waters South of
Martha's Vineyard are perennial shark hotspots. Aboard the
Sea-K II we typically catch Blue, Mako, and Thresher Sharks.
The Blue Shark is the most commonly caught shark with an
average size of 50-300 pounds and has poor table quality. The
Mako Shark is a prized game fish and can exceed 1200-pounds.
The world record being caught off of Martha's Vineyard in
2001, weighed 1,221-pounds. The average size is 70-200 pounds
and is excellent table fair. The Thresher Shark is also a
prized game fish and the strongest fighters too. Battles
lasting over 2 hours are not uncommon. The daily limit for
Sharks is one per boat, per day.
Tuna: Some years we get a good run
of School Bluefin Tuna in the waters South of Martha's
Vineyard, these fish will range from 15-200 pounds and are
excellent sport on light tackle. We typically troll or chum to
catch these fish and on occasion casting and fly fishing have
come into play.
Bottom Fish: The Bottom Fish in our
area is excellent and overlooked. On the Sea-K II we mainly
target Sea-Bass, Fluke, and Scup. When using light tackle,
these game fish provide excellent sport and fun for the whole
family. These trips usually consist of constant action and
some very tasty fillets for the cooler.
